The Bodtker Group acquires Reliance Products LP

CALGARY, Alberta (11 January 2013) – The Bodtker Group of Companies (Bodtker Group), an industrial packaging/oil and lubricant blending and filling company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Reliance Products LP (Reliance). Reliance specializes in blow moulding and injection moulding products for both the industrial and consumer markets and is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The acquisition represents significant growth for both companies in 2013.

The company’s increased scale, financial strength and complementary products will further strengthen the Bodtker Group’s position in the custom packaging industry in North America.

“We are very excited to bring these two great companies together, making us more competitive and better able to provide value to both our customers and stakeholders,” said Nils Bodtker, president and CEO of The Bodtker Group. “Reliance delivers on all of our acquisition criteria – it aligns with our core values, has great technology and people, has commitment to the environment and strengthens our position in growth markets”.

Reliance will continue to operate under its well respected trade name as a subsidiary of the Bodtker Group. Reliance has been working in plastic conversion for over 45 years. Manufacturing was consolidated in 1993 to the current Sherwin Road location in Winnipeg. It received its first ISO quality certification in 1991 and is currently ISO‐9001: 2000 registered. Today, Reliance continues to manufacture blow moulded and injection moulded products suited for both industrial and consumer customers. Its mission is to be the best rigid and collapsible container company in Canada, servicing the chemical and food markets with high barrier blow moulding technology.

Reliance’s industrial products line provides product packaging such as rigid bottles, tightheads, flexible containers and openhead pails to meet a diverse range of customer needs. They are the only Canadian company that uses the Airopak® in‐line fluorination process to treat bottles for greatly improved barrier properties for many chemicals and also has the technology to produce Selar® RB barrier bottles. Advanced decorating capabilities allows printing up to six colours of almost any text, image or pattern on pails.

On the consumer side, a number of products for camping and outdoor living are manufactured under the Reliance name. Many of these products have equally important applications in emergency preparedness and disaster relief such as hydration, sanitation and organization. With distribution through the largest department stores, mass merchants and specialty outdoor retailers, these products are available in most major communities in North America.

Commenting on the transaction, Charles Schiele, CEO of Reliance, noted “The Reliance team shares the excitement in moving forward as part of the Bodtker Group. This alliance will bring to our customers a larger, more talented resource base and dramatically increase our footprint in Canada including a western Canadian manufacturing capability. In addition, we will enjoy a much broader product offering including large drums and bulk container expertise.” Financial advisor to Reliance on the transaction was P&M Corporate Finance (PMCF) of Southfield, Michigan.

“I am once again very optimistic about the opportunities that we will generate by expanding the scope of our business with this acquisition” says Bodtker, adding that “this completes another piece of fabric in the patchwork of our quilt.”
